At SFS School of Excellence, Nagpur, education goes beyond the classroom. The school’s House System gives students opportunities to participate, collaborate, compete and grow together while developing values that are essential for success in school and beyond.
The school has three Houses – House of Emerald, House of Ruby and House of Sapphire. Each House represents a distinctive value that students are encouraged to understand and embody: Justice, Bravery and Wisdom.
Through academic, cultural, literary, sporting and co-curricular activities, the House System creates a sense of belonging while encouraging students to contribute to the larger school community.
Our Three Houses
House of Emerald – Justice

Motto: Justice
House of Emerald represents the value of justice – fairness, integrity and respect for others. Students belonging to Emerald are encouraged to understand the importance of doing what is right, treating others fairly and taking responsibility for their actions.
The House System provides opportunities for students to put these values into practice by working as a team, respecting different perspectives and participating in healthy competition.
House of Ruby – Bravery

Motto: Bravery
House of Ruby stands for bravery — the courage to face challenges, try new things and stand up for what is right.
Bravery in school is not simply about winning competitions. It is also about having the confidence to participate, learning from setbacks, supporting teammates and stepping outside one’s comfort zone. Through House activities, students get opportunities to develop resilience, confidence and a positive attitude towards challenges.
House of Sapphire – Wisdom

Motto: Wisdom
House of Sapphire represents wisdom — the ability to learn, think carefully, make thoughtful choices and use knowledge responsibly.
Students are encouraged to see learning as more than academic achievement. Participation in House activities helps them develop judgement, cooperation and an appreciation for the ideas and abilities of others.
What Is a House System in School?
A House System in school divides students into smaller groups or Houses, bringing together students from different classes and age groups. These Houses participate in various school activities and competitions throughout the academic year.
The system encourages students to work towards common goals while developing a healthy sense of school spirit and belonging.
At SFS School of Excellence, Nagpur, the three Houses — Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire — provide students with a platform to participate actively in school life and learn important values through experience.
The emphasis is not only on which House wins, but also on participation, teamwork, sportsmanship, leadership and personal growth.
Benefits of a House System for Students
A well-designed House System can play an important role in a child’s overall development. It gives students experiences that complement classroom learning and help them develop skills that cannot always be taught through textbooks alone.
1. Encourages Teamwork and Collaboration
House activities require students to work together towards a shared objective. They learn to communicate, divide responsibilities, listen to others and contribute to a team.
These experiences help children understand that individual effort and collective effort can work together to achieve a common goal.
2. Develops Leadership Skills
The House System creates opportunities for students to take responsibility and lead their peers.
Whether organising an activity, representing their House or encouraging teammates, students can gradually develop leadership, decision-making and organisational skills.
3. Builds Confidence
Not every child is naturally comfortable participating in front of others. House activities provide different avenues for students to discover their strengths.
A student may find confidence through a sporting event, while another may shine in a literary, artistic, cultural or academic activity. Such experiences can help students become more confident in expressing themselves and trying new things.
4. Promotes Healthy Competition
Competition can be a valuable learning experience when it is approached with the right attitude.
House competitions teach students to strive for excellence while also understanding the importance of fair play, discipline and sportsmanship. Students learn that both winning and losing can offer opportunities to learn and improve.
5. Creates a Sense of Belonging
Being part of a House gives students an identity within the larger school community. They work with classmates as well as students from other grades, helping create connections beyond their immediate classroom.
This sense of belonging can make school life more engaging and encourage students to participate more actively.
6. Encourages Participation Beyond Academics
School education encompasses much more than academic performance. House activities provide students with opportunities to explore different interests and abilities.
Participation in sports, cultural activities, creative pursuits, quizzes, literary activities and other competitions can help students discover talents that may not be visible in the conventional classroom.
7. Teaches Important Life Skills
The House System naturally brings students into situations where they need to cooperate, communicate, make decisions, manage disappointment and celebrate the achievements of others.
These are valuable life skills that students can carry with them into higher education, professional life and their relationships with others.
8. Reinforces Values Through Experience
One of the most valuable aspects of the House System is that students don’t merely learn about values — they have opportunities to experience and practise them.
At SFS School of Excellence, the three House mottos provide a meaningful framework:
Emerald – Justice
Ruby – Bravery
Sapphire – Wisdom
Together, these values encourage students to think about how they treat others, how they respond to challenges and how they use their knowledge and judgement.
More Than a Competition
The House System at SFS School of Excellence, Nagpur is about more than points, prizes and trophies. It is a way of bringing students together and creating opportunities for them to learn through participation.
A student cheering for a teammate, accepting defeat graciously, taking responsibility for a task or finding the courage to participate in something new is experiencing an important part of education.
Through Emerald, Ruby and Sapphire, students become part of a community where teamwork, participation and values go hand in hand with achievement.
Building Character Alongside Achievement
The years spent at school shape much more than a student’s academic foundation. They also influence confidence, character, relationships and attitudes towards challenges.
The House System at SFS School of Excellence, Nagpur, complements classroom education by giving students opportunities to lead, collaborate, compete, participate and grow.
With Justice as the guiding value of Emerald, Bravery inspiring Ruby, and Wisdom guiding Sapphire, the three Houses represent different qualities that can help students become confident, responsible and well-rounded individuals.
